THIS GUITAR HAS BEEN SOLD AND IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
This is a Gibson L – Jr. archtop acoustic guitar. With its serial number of 77483 hand-written in pencil on the label inside and with its Factory Order Number (FON) of 11186A stamped inside on the neck block, we believe this unit was built in 1924.
Gibson Junior Instruments were promoted via a small fold-out brochure. Although dismissed by many as “not really Gibsons” the brochure clearly states they had “Phenomenal Gibson Feature Incorporated Into Instruments At Popular Prices”. Gibson Junior Instruments were their first “budget brand” pre-dating the Montogomery Ward guitars by 4 years and the Kalamazoo line by 9 years.
This guitar plays great, sounds great and is VERY well-built, with no cracks or glue seam separation! It features an extreme-V neck profile, solid carved spruce top, solid carved maple back, sold maple sides, original ebony/brown finish, original open-gear tuning machines with their original buttons, original label inside the guitar with hand-written serial number, ink-stamped FON and original trapeze tailpiece. The bridge is very old but we are uncertain if it is original.
This one is a real great player and has some scrapes & dings but is in good overall condition for an 89 year-old instrument!!
Includes a 1999 model Gibson Hardshell Archtop Case in excellent condition,
